An Islip official has received a "prestigious award," Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter announced Wednesday.

Islip Town Historian George J. Munkenbeck has been recognized as the 145th Registered Public Historian in New York and honored with the prestigious Edward J. Winslow Local Government Historian Award for Excellence, the town said in a statement.

The statement said Munkenbeck's dedication to the history of Islip and Long Island is evident in his extensive research and public presentations, which continue to enrich the community's understanding of their local heritage. Read more...
