This article originally appeared in a Rome Historical Society press release.

Rome Historical Society (RHS) is putting a call out to community members willing to share their memories of Griffiss in a video interview. RHS staff will invite the first 12 volunteers into the brand new RHS video studio to participate in an hour-long interview during August and September. Please contact Museum Educator, Miranda Sherrock, at 315 336 5870 or educator@romehistoricalsociety.org for more information.

Historically, Rome, New York has attracted diverse groups of people due to its geographic significance, strategic location, proximity to waterways, local industry, and job opportunities. Former Griffiss Air Force Base and today’s Griffiss Technology and Business Park offer jobs which have brought a lot of people to this area. RHS is looking to capture Griffiss memories and experiences from individuals who live in our community to be used in educational programming and to be stored in the RHS archives.

Thank you to Museum Association of New York (MANY) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) for providing funds and support for this community centric project. The “Building Capacity, Creating Sustainability, Growing Accessibility” CARES Act grant program has provided RHS with video equipment, training workshops, and a network of museum professionals to help make this project possible. More information about MANY and IMLS can be found at https://nysmuseums.org/IMLS.
