New York State museums, whose annual economic impact is $5.37 billion (10.7% of the national economic impact of museums) are losing an estimated $3.5 million per day.

Last week the Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO) published the findings of a survey on the impact of COVID-19 on museums in Europe. We thought their data was important and believe it would be helpful to generate a comparable dataset for New York Museums so that we can convey the impact of this public health crisis on our sector.

NEMO has given MANY permission to use their survey questions which we edited to reflect our nation and state. The survey includes a question about when you intend to re-open. We know that in NY all of our museums are closed under the Executive Order of Governor Cuomo. Please answer that question with the date you realistically hope you will be able to reopen given all of the information we have today. Please add your data and share with colleagues to help us collect responses across museums of all sizes and regions of the state.

Please complete this survey by April 30, 2020. Read more...
