Warwick Valley Heritage Digital Collections Launched

In addition to continuing to load content gathered over many years, the site is being used in local schools as part of  a Library of Congress Teaching With Primary Sources project, in collaboration with the Warwick Valley Central School District and the Warwick Historical Society.

Local History librarian Sue Gardner comments, "It's a fantastic tool to finally bring the materials living in repositories and on computer hard drives into the light, where researchers and students can find and use them.  We've designed the site to be visually driven by icons;  one of the great beauties of the structure of this product is that it aligns with many of the learning benchmarks of the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum.  Students are learning that many of the subjects they study have direct connections  to the local landscape of their home town, and in addition through using the site learn research skills that will stand them in good stead no matter where their careers take them."

The front page of the Warwick Valley Heritage site, which includes a separate scanned newspaper repository, is at http://guides.rcls.org/warwickvalleyhistory.  Those who would like more information on the project can email sgardner@rcls.org.
